Ann-Marie joined the bdhSterling team as a highly experienced paraplanner. A Chartered Financial Planner, Fellow of the PFS and a qualified Pension Transfer Specialist, it’s safe to say she has a strong background in advising on complex planning needs. She specialises in UK pensions, retirement strategies and tax planning, and plays a key role in helping the wider team provide robust, holistic financial advice for our clients.

Ann-Marie has worked in financial services since leaving school, which is longer than she wishes to admit! She moved to Australia in 2017 and hasn’t looked back. Back in the UK, Ann-Marie was a successful adviser for several years, with her technical abilities having been developed over time from various management and senior paraplanning roles.

What’s your best tip for anyone moving to Australia?

If you can, ensure those you wish to keep in regular contact with have with the technology to stay in touch before you go. Trying to explain facetime over the phone (particularly to the elderly) is tricky!

What’s the best thing about living in Australia?

The outlook on life here is much more relaxed and for us, this has enhanced our family life in so many ways. The main one being a massive increase in quality family time, whether this is time spent outdoors exploring (and there is so much to explore!) or just time indoors as we (as parents) are home more with little or no commuting time.

What do you miss about living in the UK?

The cold! In Queensland, there is a distant lack of variation in daytime temperatures and I miss the UK seasons, particularly a cosy UK winter Christmas.

What gives you the most satisfaction at work?

Seeing clients achieve their objectives, whether personal or financial and knowing that I had a part in setting them on the right path.

What’s the best thing about working for bdhSterling?

As we can advise across jurisdictions, I have the ability to help similar families or individuals through the financial complexities of moving abroad and ultimately help them achieve their dreams.
